Small-scale producers and wild collectors play a vital role in cultivating and gathering botanicals, yet rarely receive a fair share of the profits. While these natural ingredients are sold in high-value markets, most of the benefits go to larger companies further down the supply chain.
This project aims to create a system that rewards farmers and collectors for their efforts in protecting biodiversity and combat climate change. By introducing premium payments linked to sustainable practices, the project aims to provide both financial incentives for local producers and a way for companies to meet their environmental commitments.
The goal is to encourage sustainable practices and improve incomes for small producers, attract support from larger businesses to scale the initiative, and integrate the approach into UEBT’s system. Ultimately, it seeks to empower communities and protect the ecosystems they rely on.
