This project will be a first for the industry by exploring unique insights into the climate impacts of the jewellery and watch sectors. It assesses the types of actions needed to achieve global net zero targets, and how the RJC can advance the narrative for climate mitigation in the sector.
Previous climate research has focussed on specific materials or segments of the supply chain, but a holistic assessment of the industry has not been carried out. This project assesses the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) of the industry through a life cycle assessment of a jewellery product from mine to retail. The research will uncover the GHG emissions involved at each stage of production, plus an analysis of data availability, collection, and reporting at each stage of the process.
