We are delighted to announce that the Mining Association of Canada (MAC) has been approved as an ISEAL Community Member. Their knowledge of global mining standards will bring valuable insights to our growing community.
MAC is Canada’s national mining industry organisation. Its members account for most Canadian base and precious metals, uranium, diamonds, metallurgical coal, mined oil sands and industrial minerals production.
MAC members are actively engaged in mineral exploration, mining, smelting, refining and semi-fabrication. MAC’s global standard, Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) is a sustainability program that helps mining companies manage key environmental and social risks.
TSM responsible mining standard requires site-level assessments with external verification. It is mandatory for all companies that are members of implementing associations.
Through TSM, critical aspects of social and environmental performance are evaluated, independently validated, and publicly reported against 34 distinct performance indicators.
Following approval by the ISEAL Board on 9 October 2024, ISEAL’s Executive Director, Karin Kreider, said: “I’m pleased to welcome MAC as an ISEAL Community Member. This step forward reflects MAC’s commitment to deepening their credible practices in the mining industry.
“I look forward to seeing their journey develop.”
Pierre Gratton, MAC President and CEO, said: “We are very pleased to join the ISEAL Community and to be able to show our positive impact transparently and to continuously develop and improve the Towards Sustainable Mining initiative.
“We look forward to sharing experiences and ideas with other ISEAL Community Members and to contributing to the ISEAL Community with our many years of experience in sustainability standards.”
Our membership
ISEAL Community Members are sustainability systems and accreditation bodies dedicated to delivering benefits for people and planet. They are committed to continually improving their systems and impacts through learning and innovation; collaborating with stakeholders and peers; and are transparent and truthful about how their systems work and how they measure their impacts.
In becoming an ISEAL Community Member, MAC joins a growing number of well-respected sustainability systems that are driving positive social and environmental change across multiple sectors. MAC will be working alongside these mission-driven sustainability organisations to continuously improve the effectiveness of their systems and demonstrate impact.
We encourage any organisation developing or operating a sustainability system with a multi-stakeholder approach and a commitment to credible practices to consider joining ISEAL.
